3 Questions (12-7-12)

This week i learned to do more stoichiometry with Molarity. http://dl.clackamas.edu/ch105-04/molarity.htm . I study the solubility rules and now i know which of the products are going to be something different from (aq).
This week we did a lab about Titration it took 2 days to finish but i didnt finish because i did something wrong and and we didnt have any NaOH left. We did a test on friday, i got a 28 out of ¿¿(56)?? questions, plus 5 points of extra credit.
For monday i have to:
Finish my book for the glog
Study for the test on Monday
Finish the JiTt on UT
Learn how to do reduction and oxidation formulas
Learn how to do half reaction formulas
I have finish all the labs since we start with solubility rules ( 6 or 7 labs).
Finish homework for another classes.

Industrial Titration



I couldn’t find any good industries that use titration. i only find the wine industry and juice industry but none of their pages said anything helpful. For the wine company they use titration to take away a little bit of concentration of SO2 (sulfur dioxide is an important additive to wine to prevent spoilage and also serves to regulate its acidity) they take acids away because they can have more than.

Wines have a lot of different kind of acids and they have to take some away to make a perfect one. Acidity provides the crisp, slightly tart taste of wine on your palate. Too little acid, and your wine tastes flabby and non-committal. Too much acid, and your taste buds scream for relief.

I couldn’t find any equations for wine if find this equation REDOX reaction: H2SO3 + I2 → H2SO4 + 2 HI but I don’t if it’s helpful. http://www.mbhes.com/so2_in_wine.htm


For juices I found that you need titration to take some of the vitamin C because is really concentrated.

3 Questions (11-30-12)



This week I learn how to do ionic equations, a little bit of Methasis Reactions, I'm learning about the Solubility rules, because I still don’t know how many are there. Precipitation and I learn I class about Molarity, how to go from mL or moles to mL and then to Liters, but I still have to take notes about that.

This week I finish 4 quick labs about solubility rules, methasis, redox, and Activity series. Mixing Solutions, with metals, acids and bases. Find their net ionic equation and find their reduction and oxidation.  Tuesday I did 2 and Wednesday I did two more. I took a picture and a video of each lab to finish it at home.

This weekend I'm going to try to finish the notes, because I'm just in methasis reactions. I need to do 2 more or 3 and the flip questions for all the notes. I'm going to print the new lab we are doing on Monday and do the pre-lab for it. I need to finish the 4 labs that we did thisweek. Learn when the products in a reaction will be a (aq) or a (s). I'm going to try to read my book this weekend, I was going to read it this week but I didn’t have time.

Chemical reactions

People should be careful with chemical reactions because they can do something good or something bad after the reaction. Like in some restaurants or homes they still mix Clorox and Ammonis to clean, until is too late and there's people dead or in a hospital. Those 2 things make chlorine gas and other bad things that can kill you. We use chemical reaction like burning gasoline for cars, but they dont do anything bad or using copper as tubes for water. Those 2 dont do anything bad to kill you.

3 Questions (11-23-12)

This week i went to school only for 2 days, Monday and Tuesday, because of thanksgiving break, the rest of the week i had to work. After i got out from work i took notes about "Net ionic equations", finish my extra credit, and finish my 2 blogs.
This week i learned how to make a net ionic equation, after watching the video i think making those equations are easy. When i was doing my UT extra credit i remember to things that i forgot, like founding the percent abundance of isotopes, i had trouble doing that question but not i get it.
Next week or tomorrow i think im going to learn what i should do if a see a (g) in an equation instead of a (aq) or a (s). Tomorrow morning im finishing my UT homework and my lab notebook. Next week or this week im really going to read my book and finish it, i was going to read it on thanksgiving break but i didnt had time.

What I am thinking of? (11-12-12)

At this moment I feel free from all the stuff I was doing, with school, cross country, and work. Now that cross country is over I can focus more in school and do better in chemistry, the class I'm doing a little bit bad, and another classes. I'm going to do all my work; I could read my entire book in thanksgiving week. And finish any missing work.


Baby bottle lab (11-7-12)


In the baby bottle lab I succeed getting to 6 meter and more. I took 2 trials at the beginning just to mess around and then I went home to do some calculations and I got it at the second trial. At the beginning I didn’t know if I had to use more vinegar than baking soda, or more baking soda than vinegar, but when I trial both ways the baby bottle went the same distance. I had to use stoichimetric to find how many grams of Carbon Dioxide I can produce with 3 grams of baking soda. And then with that number of grams of carbon dioxide fined how many grams of vinegar I can make with that #of grams of CO2. I don’t think I would change anything, my went really far, I would try with 2 grams or 1 grams of baking soda, but I think it would that same ratio as mine.

3 Question (11-9-12)

This week we finish the baby bottle lab and i  got to 6m. The way i did it is finding how much CO2 is in 3g of Baking soda. Then, i had to know how much vinegar in the amount of CO2 i got from 3g of baking soda. Because the vinegar is not pure vinegar i had to multiply the amount of vinegar times 10, because there is 10g of pure vinegar in every 100g of vinegar. I multiply the by 4 the amount of baking soda and vinegar to get amount to get 6m and pass it to get almost 12m
This week i really didnt learn anything new in science, but im getting better in finding a limiting factor and all that.
Next week or this 2 days until monday im going to study for the exam

This week we start practicing with the baby bottle lab, but we didnt start because the class ended. Monday we will start practicing.
Im still learning how to get the limiting reaction of a chemical reaction.
Next week i want to start reading my book because im just in the 9th page. I want to start and finish the baby bottle lab and to learn more stoichiometry.

3 Question (10-26-12)


This week I finish the Avogadro’s # lab and celebrate Mole Day by creating s big poster about Avogadro with a body of a mole
I just learned how to go from grams in a chemical reactions to molecules, like how many oxygen molecules in O2 +2H2--2H20
Next week i would like to learn more about Stoichiometry and learn the last section.

My Book

I haven't read my book, but the little i read is about the science about dunking doughnut and cookies. What is a cookie and a doughnut made of and what happens when you put in a coffee.

The Mole

A "Mole" is just a number, its the amount of a chemical substance. With the symbol "Mol" is like grams or amu, just use moles instead of grams or amu and it would be the same amount. The number of molecules in a mole is 6.022X10^23 ( Avogadro's number).

Today at class we did a lab called "Avogadro's number". Counting, getting the mass and volume of 100 rice grains, to get an idea of Avogadro's number

Accurate, Precise and Significant Digits


Accuracy is how close a measured value is to the actual value.
Precision is how close the measured values are to each other.

Significant Digits rule: Atlantic Vs.Pacific
Atlantic- if decimal is Absent, count  all numbers from the right (Atlantic) with the first nonzero to the left
Pacific- if decimal is Present, count all numbers from the left (Pacific) side with the first nonzero to the right

 

Percent Composition


       To find the  Percent Composition you first have to find the Formula weight: the sum of the atomic mass for the atoms in a chemical formula. Then you divide part over whole times one hundred. which the "Part" is the element you want to find in a formula. The "Whole" is the compound or the formula weight of the chemical formula, then times 100 because its a percent.
Ex: Find aluminium in Al2(SO4)3
Formula Weight:    (2)(Al)-   (2)(26.9)=    53.8                                     53.8gAl
                                (3)(S)-    (3)(32.1)=    96.3          % composition-------------------- X100
                               (12)(O)- (12)(15.9)=  190.8                                   340.9gAl2(SO4)3
                                                      Total= 340.9
% composition= 15.8%. there's 15.8% of Aluminium in the formula Al2(SO4)3.

Moderday Wonders and Ancient Art




The commonality between moderday wonders and ancient art is that both last forever. Some of the ancient art we use today are to make things easy; making a sword and how to paint something. we use those steps or that help, in these days to make a beautiful drawing or to make a ancient sword. The moderdays wonders we dont use it still but we will and maybe in a thousand of years people will keep using it. for example the silk cup, is a big step for the future, we dont use it right now but we will and it will make a big differents in our world for been green.  moderday and ancient will be popular right now and forever.

My passion is football. My favorite thing to do and play is football. i dont watch that much t.v but i like to see the NFL and see the Patriots play. i alwalys play football outside withh family or friends. i used to be in football when i was little and i stop playing when i came to mayfield. i used to play defense playing corner but im a really good thrower.
